What is the difference between the booking party, shipper, consignee and notify party?

Updated: 2026-10-08 · RIOMI Editorial · Trade & Supply Chain
Quick AnswerThe booking party arranges cargo space; the shipper, consignee and notify party shall be filled in according to the actual transaction and the carrier's requirements; the same enterprise may concurrently assume certain roles, but they shall not be deemed identical by default.

Verification Against Formal Documents

Booking confirmation, shipping instructions, draft bill of lading and final transport documents shall be checked version by version for names, addresses and roles; fields on a draft do not certify the final issued content.

Handling Changes

Any change of roles shall be confirmed by the parties concerned and the carrier, with revised records retained. Where the booking party differs from the shipper on the documents, additional authorization and liability may be involved, which shall be confirmed prior to issuance.
